How to do Weld-Neck Flange in AutoCad 3D

BE LIKE GANDHI

By Bayawanon

Mahatma Gandhi was not a Christian, but he was one of the most Christ-like person that I have ever known. He fought the British for the independence of his native India and the rights of Black-Africans almost at all cost. He was physically beaten, he fasted, he appeared before Courts to fight for the rights of his people, and eventually he lost his own life for the greater good of the greatest number of his countrymen.
Why not be like Gandhi? If Gandhi, a non-Christian, did good things for his fellow men, if Gandhi a pagan (Hindu) did good deeds for his countrymen and motherland, why can't we Christians, do the same for our fellow men, countrymen and motherland? As followers of Christ (Christians) great things are expected from us in serving our fellow men for the greater glory of GOD.
In view of the foregoing, I am asking, urging and encouraging everyone to be like Mahatma "The Great Soul" Gandhi, to be an agent of change, to make a difference for the good of our fellow men, and for us to have a better world to live in. Amen

Bayawanon First

by Felizar Mortillero

During the years 1957-1961, the Philippines through the guidance of President Carlos Garcia adopted an economic policy called the "Filipino First Policy". This economic policy aimed on strengthening the Philippine economy by giving more economic priorities to Filipino businessmen over and above FOREIGN INVESTORS. This development paved the way for the Filipinization of commerce and business in the Philippines, and thus helping more the Filipino business community to thrive, developed and strengthened. In this case it is the FILIPINO who helped his own countrymen to survive and even improve the economy.

In connection to this I am calling the leadership of the City Administration of Bayawan to also impose the "Bayawanon First Policy", it would be an administrative policy where I am suggesting that Bayawanon applicants in cases of job vacancies should be given more priority over and above non-Bayawanon job seekers. In conjunction to this, non-Bayawanon work hunters shall only be admitted if and when there are no Bayawanon applicants who may qualify to the job vacancy. This suggestion of mine is anchored more on the "Filipinization Doctrine" of President Garcia, if Garcia had a "Filipinization Doctrine" or FILIPINO FIRST POLICY, then I have my own "Bayawanization Doctrine" or BAYAWANON FIRST POLICY, for who would help a BAYAWANON in distress aside from his fellow BAYAWANON? In relation to this I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the present set of Bayawanon City dads or officials would heed my appeal. SO BE IT.

Why run for political office when you can serve in many ways?

 By Felizar Mortillero

After thorough pondering, contemplation and scouring of conscience, I have fathomed that one does not need to run for public office in order to serve the people. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had served the American people especially the African-Americans through his civil rights movement in the 1960's and he was not a politician, he eventually lost his life because of his love of freedom. He lost his life but his good deeds in fighting for equality in America between whites and blacks will forever be remembered and his name will be immortalized together with the great men in the annals of the history of the world.

Mother Theresa had served the people of Calcutta, India without running for public office through her ministry and charity works. She cared for the poor of Calcutta regardless of their religion and cared for them as if they were her own. She had cared for them untiringly and unconditionally until her last breath, and she did not get something out of it but her efforts did not went in vain for she is now one of the candidates for sainthood.

There are many ways to serve the people, to be a good servant by becoming good in his field. Don't you know that a carpenter can be considered a GOOD public servant by becoming a good worker? And don't you know that if you do your work heartily and offer it to GOD you are considered already to have praised him?

Why run for public office when you can still serve the people without throwing your hat at the political arena? Why not spare your private life from being scoured upon by your possible political opponents? Why not spare yourself from the controversies and troubles politics can possibly give you? To any probable and possible political wannabe please contemplate on this.

NO TO THE ONE NEGROS ISLAND REGION, YES TO THE OBLITERATION OF THE PHILIPPINE ADMINISTRATIVE REGIONS

by Felizar Mortillero

It seems like the ONE NEGROS ISLAND REGION would be a reality, and because of this I am expecting that many provinces which have similar sounding names would also follow suit and make their own administrative regions, hence I would not raise my eyebrows if there will be a ONE LEYTE ISLAND REGION, ONE SAMAR ISLAND REGION, ONE CAMARINES REGION, ONE LANAO REGION, ONE COTABATO REGION, etc.,etc.

This sad possibility would tantamount to billions of pesos being squandered for this useless purpose. Why did I say useless? It is because in order for an administrative region to be established the government has to spend billions of pesos just for the creation of one region save from the possibility of corruption that may probably happen in every regional office of a bureau.

Don't you know that United States of America being the lone country with a "SUPER POWER STATUS" has no administrative regions? Because of this America has no administrative regional offices, thus America does not have to spend millions or billions of dollars to maintain an administrative region, ergo the United States eludes a possibility of making the government of making it a bigger government when America as a super power country has the right to do it.

Can you just imagine how many billions if not trillions of pesos does the Philippine Government save if this Administrative Regions be obliterated? Can you just imagine how big the savings of the Philippine Government be if the Philippines lessen its bureaucracy? I will tell you my friends, the truth is this, the Philippines is one of the biggest government in the whole world if not in the whole universe, but it is one of the smallest in terms of land area.

In view of the foregoing arguments and premises, I am respectfully recommending that the proposed ONE NEGROS ISLAND REGION in particular be frowned upon and be rejected and all of the ADMINISTRATIVE REGIONS in general be defaced for purposes of economizing on the part of the government and of the State. SO BE IT.

Muslims & Christians, why fight each other?

by Felizar Mortillero

If the Caucasian-Americans and the African-Americans after hard and trying times are united as one people and under one flag in the United States of America, there is no reason for the Muslim-Filipinos and the Christian-Filipinos not to be united in Southern Philippines for the sake of progress and peace.
As far as I know, before the Christian missionaries came to our motherland and before the Islamic practitioners reached the shores of our country, there were two religions in the Philippines, and those were paganism and animism. Paganism was a religion all about praising nature, it was about treating the trees, the stars, the moon, plants and even animals as gods. Animism was a belief of early Filipinos that things, plants and animals around them had spirits.
It is also evident that we both the Filipino Christians and Muslims alike look the same for we both belong to the Malayan race (brown race). The ways of life of both groups like farming, fishing, etc. etc. are almost the same hence, it is very clear that both groups are more or less not distinct and unique from each other. What made these two sets of GOD's creation different from each other are their religions.
So, why is it that the Christians and Muslims are fighting with each other in Southern Philippines? It is very clear that the Moro rebels' basis for separation or independence for the Philippines are deeply rooted on their religion. Don't they know that the word religion derives from the latin word RELEGARE which means "to be one with GOD"? So why fight with each other when all religions in the world have only one sole purpose and that is to be one with GOD? Why?

POLITICIANS ARE LIKENED TO BUTCHERS

A butcher does not slaughter a pig so he can serve the people, he slaughters a pig so he may gain. Sadly, that's a political reality, most of our politicians are running for public office for the sake of becoming popular, for political power, for the sake of enriching themselves by embezzling the coffers of the State, and even for having influence over beautiful but innocent women, eventually exploiting them. These type of politicians are practically menace to the society, who are running for political offices in the guise of public service.

Once upon a time in Philippine politics there was a man in the name of Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos, Sr. who was running for the Presidency of the Philippines, he would fondly tell the people in his campaign sorties with his punch line "If you would elect me as President of this country, this country would be great again", and what happened next? The longest Martial Law in the history of mankind (1972-1981) came into being, many political and human rights activists died and disappeared, his political rivals were jailed, the power of the Courts to issue Writs of Habeas Corpus was suspended, and these all happened for his planned perpetuation in power.

Those dark days in Philippine history all happened because of the political blindness of the Filipinos that politicians like Mr. Marcos are not simply there to serve but to gain. Those forgettable days, that regrettable epoch (Marcos Regime) happened because of the plain political dumbness of Juan and Juana de la Cruz, now the big question is this, will we Filipinos not learn from the past that purely and simply politicians are like butchers? That they are at the helm of power not to serve the people but to gain power or even worse gain money for they want to get back their capitals that they have invested in the election/s where they have participated? Please think of it fellow Filipinos.

FILIPINOS MUST BE TIGERS IN ALL ASPECTS

By Felizar Mortillero
The Philippines is now known internationally through athletics via Manny Pacquiao (boxer), Nonito Donaire (boxer), Donnie Nietes (boxer), Gilas Pilipinas (national basketball team) and the Philippine Azkals (national soccer team). Just lately, the Filipinos have exhibited their bravery and might universally through the representation of the Philippine Peacekeeping Force at the Golan Heights when they repulsed the threatening Syrian rebels in their aborted plan to take the former as their captives. The Filipino soldiers, outnumbered but not out-clashed, only numbering seventy-two (72) defended their camp Position 68 through a fierce gun battle running seven long hours and managed to maneuver and staged the so-called the "Great Escape" at night time. As a result of these developments, Filipinos are now recognized worldwide as great warriors in their fields of specialization. The adage of the Great General Douglas MacArthur now holds true when he said and I quote " Give me one hundred thousand Filipino soldiers and I'm going to conquer the whole world".
Unquestionably, we are now plugged as the new fighters of the modern world, but the big question is, do we put enough effort to move this country forward so in due time be freed from being labelled as the sick man of Asia? The answer is a BIG NO, if we can't learn from the lessons of the past, the Philippines will remain as such. If we will not cautiously pick our leaders in the next election, the political, economic and social problems in the Philippines will continue for a long period if not forever. Today is the "time of the awakening", start anew for a better tomorrow. Let us allow Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire, Donnie Nietes, the Gilas Pilipinas, the Philippine Azkals, the Overseas Filipino Workers and the Philippine Peacekeeping Force in Syria to be our inspiration to do better and emerge as a tiger  in political renewal, economic revolution and social justice. AMEN.

NOT YET FREE

By Felizar Mortillero

I have traversed the highways of five different provinces before reaching the "Banawa ni Datu Bangkaya" or Kalibo, Aklan, and in that journey I saw the beauty and the fertility of the said lands, I was perplexed at such wonderful beauty of nature. In conjunction to that, I have now discovered why the Spanish conquistadores, the American colonizers and the Japanese invaders had fallen in love with our fair motherland. I also discovered why both our fallen and victorious heroes fought for the freedom of our past generation and for the independence of our nation; their tears, sweat and blood combined shed for the sovereignty of our native land were not in vain.

We were freed from the hands of the Spaniards, we fought side by side with the Americans to repulse the Japanese; we gained independence from the Americans, but the big question is ... are we really truly INDEPENDENT? Whether we like it or not we are facing another set of MODERN DAY conquerors, invaders and marauders in the form of our corrupt leaders and politicians siphoning both our national and local treasuries. They act like a sheep especially during election times when in truth they are actually wolves hiding in sheep’s clothing that are ready to devour us and do damage to our motherland. They act as if they are the savior of the country when in reality they're the ones destroying it. By virtue of these circumstances, can we honestly ask ourselves, are we are truly independent? I think the answer would be in the negative.

THE HONOR CODE MUST BE APPLIED TO ALL

By Felizar Mortillero

The Honor Code of the Philippine Military Academy provides, that the military academy's cadets do not steal, cheat and lie and that the academy does not condone any of those practices. Violation of the Honor Code of the Philippine Military Academy tantamount to expulsion, in the case of former Cadet Jeffrey Cudia a candidate for Salutatorian of the just graduated PMA Class of 2014, he was disqualified to graduate for being late for only three minutes in a class, the Honor Code Committee of the PMA disqualified him to graduate not really because he was late for three minutes but because he LIED according to them. Former Cadet Cudia averred that he was late on his next class since he waited for his teacher to give him his class card, hence he was late for three minutes for the next subject, but the Honor Code Committee ruled that he must be disqualified from the Philippine Military Academy and for graduation in the process for lying, since his defense why he was late in his next subject would have been this way "he was told by his instructor to wait". Now the question is this, what is the difference of the two statements that he waited and/or he was told to wait? Does this act of Cudia tantamount to lying?

If former Cadet Cudia is really guilty of violation of the Honor Code of the Philippine Military Academy, and thus being disqualified for graduation from the very prestigious military academy, then it is also my personal belief that this Honor Code must be extended to the other institutions of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines. The Honor Code must be applied to all, it should and must be applied to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, to members of the House of Senate and House of Representatives, to the members of the Cabinet, to the members of the Supreme Court and its lower courts, to the Local Government Units and if possible it should and must be applied from the President down to the lowliest publicly paid janitors of the land. If the Honor Code of the Philippine Military Academy existed during the time of Jesus Christ, then St. Peter, one of the pillars of the Catholic faith would have been disqualified as one of Jesus Christ's apostles for LYING.

SPAIN MUST BE BLAMED FOR FILIPINO ETHNIC DIVISION

By Felizar Mortillero

The Spanish friars and authorities did not teach the native Filipinos to speak and write in Spanish for fear that the natives would soon ask for independence from Spain if the native Filipino islanders would be educated. Only the rich Filipinos like Jose Rizal, Graciano Lopez Jaena, Antonio Luna, Marcelo del Pilar and other Filipino patriots during their generation were able to know Spanish since they belonged to rich families.;
The decision of the Spanish authorities not to teach the Filipinos of the Iberian language bore good fruits since the Philippines was one of the last colonies together with Puerto Rico and Cuba to secede from Spain not because of a successful revolution by the Filipinos but because of the Spanish-American War where Spain lost to a new colonial power, the United Sates of America. Because of the insistence of Spain not to teach the Filipinos the Castillian tongue which would have united the Filipinos under one language, the Spanish language, the Filipinos continue to be divided even during these days because of ethnic tongue issues.;
Because of the failure of the Spaniards to educate the Filipinos, the Filipinos have developed that so-called "Superiority Complex" over other ethnic groups. The Tagalogs feel superior over their Visayan and Mindanaoan counterparts much more that the Tagalog dialect is widely taught in school and being used widely in the Philippine Archipelago. The Cebuanos also feel superior over their Hiligaynon counterparts and vice versa since they already have developed not just tongue superiority but they already have developed REGIONALISM.
Regionalism is a superiority complex where one ethnic group feel superior over and above other ethnic groups. Regionalism which is happening in the Philippines is like RACISM which happened in America and APARTHIED which happened in South Africa, and which are still happening even during these days in those countries and in other parts of the world.

Had Spain educated the Filipino islanders within her dominance over the Philippines using her language for three hundred thirty three (333) long years, the Philippines would have a deeply rooted uniting language which would have negated the possibility of Regionalism for one and only reason that the Filipino Islanders would have spoken one and the same language, and that is the Iberian tongue called SPANISH.

Rubber Tree Planting : One way towards progress

By Felizar Mortillero

I'm urging the present Bayawan City Administration Officials to support or continue the Rubber Tree Farming Program of the late Mayor German "Gerry" Pinili Sarana. This proposal of mine is deeply anchored on three (3) grounds to wit: 1) There is a shortage of RUBBER SUPPLY around the world, this occurrence would probably make this product more marketable and its price might go up because of this development; 2) Rubber Tree Farming is a long term farming, since rubber trees have long life spans compared to other products like rice, sugar cane, corn etc. and 3) Rubber trees like other trees can help improve the environment, since it can help the people address the shortage of water supply, it can in a way stifle soil erosion, it helps the air that the people breathe become cleaner and fresher and it gives coolness to our surroundings which in a way mitigates global warming.
Please Sirs, heed this call since I know that this program is one of the keys for us Bayawanons to improve in the field of local economy, agriculture and environment. I feel like this PROJECT can be a good LEGACY of yours to the future and next generation of Bayawanons to come. May this appeal be heard by you, and may this project continue for the good of the greatest number of Bayawanons. GOD bless as all and may GOD bless Bayawan City.

INDUSTRIALIZATION : KEY TO PROGRESS

By Felizar Mortillero

One of the plans of FELEAZAR TASA MORTILLERO is to convert the City of Bayawan form an Agricultural City into an Industrial one or to make it a hybrid of agriculture and industry. He believes that industrialization is the key to improve the economy of Bayawan City, the same can also help the people of Bayawan find jobs from the industries that would sprout if Bayawan City would be industrialized.
FELEAZAR TASA MORTILLERO's vision about industrialization is being anchored on America's, Europe's, Japan's and China's industrialization. History would tell us that the said countries/continents were once upon a time agricultural countries/places. What pole vaulted their economy was industrialization, in connection to this Mr. Mortillero would move heaven and earth to make steps to industrialize Bayawan City, to make it more productive and competitive and to make its citizens have decent lives through economic boom, but we don't have to deny the fact that in reality Bayawan is an agricultural city, hence he would also recommend that industrialization and agriculturization may go hand in hand for the sake of economic progress.

FELEAZAR TASA MORTILLERO's stand in favor of industrialization must and should not be considered as an ambiguity to the PRO-ENVIRONMENT City Program of the past Sarana Administration, the Pro-Environment Program of the past Administration must be continued in order for us to balance industry and nature. If possible Mr. Mortillero would find avenues for Bayawan City to be the new SUBIC of the South, a new paradise where industry, eco-tourism, agriculture and new technologies meet.

BONIFACIO : RIZAL'S CO-NATIONAL HERO

http://totomortillero.blogspot.ca/2015/07/bonifacio-rizals-co-nationalhero-i.html?spref=fb

By Bayawanon
I believe that Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal y Mercado y Alonzo y Realonda is really a National Hero of the Philippines, because of his writings, the El Filibustirismo and the Noli Me Tangere, the natives of the Philippines were awakened, rose arms against the Spanish colonizers and cried for independence. But we should not also discount the efforts of the Katipunan Supremo, Gat Andres de Castro Bonifacio for co-founding the Katipunan on July 7, 1892 in one of the houses in Azcarraga St., Tondo, Manila and for heading the Cry of Pugadlawin and eventually leading the revolution against the Castillians in 1896.
We would not have enjoyed the freedom of today had it not been of the Philippine Revolution which started in 1896, there could have been no 1896 Philippine Revolution had it not been of the Katipunan and there could have been no Katipunan without Bonifacio. These are my parameters in declaring AndresBonifacio as a co-national hero of Dr. Jose Rizal.
I would not discount the role of Dr. Jose Rizal in the 1896 Philippine Revolution, since he together with his NOLI and FILI was the main inspiration of the Katipuneros in their cry for independence, however the revolution would not have started had it not been of Bonifacio who led his men in tearing their cedulas and cried for independence at Pugadlawin.
Is it not that Joan of Arc of France, Simon Bolivar of the continent of South America, George Washington of the United States of America, Bernardo O'Higgins of Chile and Andres Bonifacio of the Philippines have one thing in common and that is rising of arms against the foreign colonizers of their native lands? Is it not that Joan of Arc, Simon Bolivar, George Washington, Bernardo O'Higgins were declared as national heroes of their respective countries? And why won't the Philippines declare Andres Bonifacio as a Philippine National Hero because of these elements?
In connection with the following arguments, I hereby recommend and pray that the tears, blood, sweat, strength and efforts of that fearless revolutionary by the name of Gat Andres de Castro Bonifacio be given credence and weight by the Philippine historians and government for fighting for the air of freedom which we Filipinos are presently enjoying by declaring him as a Philippine co-national hero of Dr. Jose Rizal. Amen

A CHALLENGE TO ALL POLITICIANS

by Felizar Mortillero

I AM MY OWN MAN -- former U.S. Vice President Al Gore (during his acceptance speech for the Presidential nomination of the Democratic National Convention of the U.S. 2000 Presidential Election).

This was the main statement of the then United States Vice President Albert "Al" Gore Jr. in his acceptance speech for his failed Presidential run in 2000. He promised to the American public that if he would have won, he would not be under the shadows of his political boss former President Bill Clinton. This should be the case ... every leader must not be under the shadows and dictates of his party mates, his decisions must not be influenced by anyone and he should only be accountable to the people who elected him. If a leader wants to be called a PRINCIPLED one then he must not bow to the pressures of his peers, he must only submit to the needs of the people, to the voice of the folks who have chosen him for his business as a leader is to lead for the good of the vast majority and not to be dictated upon by the numbered aristocrats.

Now, I am challenging every politician and every leader in all four corners of the world especially the Filipino leaders/politicians to be his/her own man/woman for the good of the public, for the good of those who put them in power for it is them that they the elected leaders are truly beholden. I am asking you HONORABLES, please do not waste the votes of the people who trusted you in every election that you have won for without them you are nothing. Sirs and madams I am appealing to you, be principled enough, do not give in to the pressures of the chosen few, hear the voices of the vast majority who need your care, your compassion, your principles and your unflinching commitment to serve them. Please be a true LEADER and BE YOUR OWN MAN. AMEN.

Death of SAF 44: An eye for an eye ?

by Felizar Mortillero

What did former U.S. President George Walker Bush Jr. do after the Al-Qaeda bombed the ill-fated Twin Towers of New York the symbol of the American economy and the Pentagon the symbol of American military might? Did he say thank you to Al-Qaeda for doing that very damaging act of the Muslim extremists? Did he offer an act of peace to the culprits? Did he ask Al-Qaeda and Afghanistan, the country which harbored Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden to have peace talks with America? The answer was in the negative.

George Walker Bush Jr. instead asked the Afghan government to surrender the perpetrators of such horrendous acts to justice, and warned the latter to be also included in an American military offensive against the Al-Qaeda if the same would fail to deliver Osama bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda peers to the proper agents of justice. After the said ultimatum and after the American Congress approved the declaration of war by the American President, the quest for justice and the Afghan-Al-Qaeda-American War began and the rest became part of HISTORY. To make the long story short of that conflict, America won the war and JUSTICE was served to the innocent victims.

Now, it is also the time for Philippine President Benigno Simeon Aquino III to make a Bush Act. It is my humble view that the President shall also make an ultimatum against those responsible for the killings of 44 agents of SAF-PNP in the quest of JUSTICE. If the ultimatum would not be heeded by the perpetrators then a declaration of war must be ordered by the President of the Republic of the Philippines against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Bangsamoro Independence Freedom Fighters for deceitfully eliminating the forty four (44) operatives of the Special Armed Force of the Philippine National Police who only set foot on Maguindanao soil to only carry the orders to arrest MARWAN an

AMYENDAHAN ANG BAYAWAN CITY FISHERY ORDINANCE

By Felizar Mortillero

RESIGN OR COMMIT SUICIDE?

by Felizar Mortillero

After perusal of the evidences and documents, and after thorough investigation, the Ombudsman engendered a well-founded belief that there were reasons to believe that Honorable Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Ramon Revilla, Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada were probably guilty of the crime of plunder in connection with the PDAF SCAM. The proper cases of PLUNDER were filed against the above-named legislators at the Sandiganbayan (Philippine Special Court on Graft and Corrupt Cases) and proper warrants of arrests were issued against them and as a consequence they have submitted themselves unto the custody of the Court. They were and still are detained before the Philippine National Police Custodial Center at Camp Crame, Quezon City. They have tried to make use of their constitutional right to file bail even though their cases are non-bailable by filing a “motion for application for bail”, proper hearings were conducted but unfortunately their cries for temporary freedom were rejected by the graft Court, this happening would strengthen the claims of corruption against them.

In one of the investigations of the Blue Ribbon Committee of the Senate, then Secretary Angelo Reyes, an outstanding alumnus of the Philippine Military Academy, John F. Kennedy School of Governance (Harvard University Graduate School) and Asian Institute of Management, was shamed by the senators including Honorable Jinggoy Estrada for being corrupt. Even without proper charges in court and quasi-judicial bodies, Reyes out of shame did an unthinkable but honorable act of extra-judicially terminating his own life. In conjunction with this, I am hoping that the above named members of the Honorable Senate would also do a "Reyes act" out of delicadeza, if Reyes cut short his own life without being charged in court or quasi-judicial bodies, then Estrada, Revilla and Enrile should do the same since there are enough evidence for them that they are probably guilty of plunder.

If they can't take their own lives out of cowardice, then they have another option and that is the honorable act of resignation. Former U.S. Senator John Ensign (Nevada), a former presidential aspirant of the United States and of Filipino ancestry, resigned out of being accused of adultery, former New York Governor Elliot Spitzer resigned after being accused of hiring the services of a prostitute and former U.S. Congressman Vito Fossella (New York) also quit his legislative duties for having been discovered committing DUI (driving under the influence of liquor). Those acts of the above-mentioned leaders were not related to their duties as leaders, yet they resigned because they still respect the people who voted for them. In consonance with this, I am hoping that Senators Enrile, Revilla and Estrada shall resign because they have committed no ordinary crimes like, adultery and DUI, etc. They have committed a crime which is not just simple corruption but plunder, such crime constitutes betrayal of public trust, hence, suicide and/or resignation on their part is purely and simply just.

INDUSTRIYALISASYON YAWI SA KALAMBUAN

By Felizar Tasa Mortillero

Why I create pop-up farms in my city | Roman Gaus | TEDxZurich

Urban agriculture has been real for decades, starting with the industrialization of Western Europe in the 20th century. Urban agriculture has been also well practiced in poor economies such as Cuba, where it serves as an important way of self-reliance. Today, with conventional agriculture "Big Ag" being at a cross-road in terms of its ecological impact on the environment and the increased food demand of a population growing to 9bn people by 2050, urban agriculture may very well be one key of a solution for the 21st century. As Roman explains, urban agriculture offers the solution to grow potentially enough food in the city to feed its entire population. What's more, it also creates healthier, wealthier and happier cities, offering consumers with fresh & quality food choices and access to better quality of life.

Roman Gaus, Founder of Urban Farmers
Roman Gaus (32)- from corporate career to social entrepreneur & urban farmer. Roman's story is both fascinating and inspiring. When Roman returned from the States to Switzerland, he left a short but steep career with companies such as Procter & Gamble, Novartis and Franke Group. Yet, he brought with him an emerging concept about inner-city farming, which he had seen take a grass roots approach in US cities. Back in Switzerland, Roman was surprised by the proven, Swiss-engineered technology know-how of Aquaponic; a combination of fish and vegetable farming, ideally suited to grow locally grown & organic food without soil in the city -- the idea behind Urban Farmers was born. Determined to drive economic, social and ecological impact, Roman is now founder & CEO of Urban Farmers AG, a pioneering Spin-off from the University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) in Wädenswil that aims to bring sustainable urban agricultural practices into cities of the 21st century.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
